What You Need to Know About Financial Aid

Many of you have already completed the first two steps in the college application process. Those steps are 1. Taking the Standardized tests (SAT/ACT) and 2. Applying to AT LEAST one college. So if you’ve completed these two steps, then you’re on target! Also… If you applied early enough AND were a competitive applicant, some of you might have even received acceptance letters already!  NOW being that it’s THAT time of the year, I’m pretty sure many of you are asking yourselves “How can I afford my college education?”  or “Where is the money going to come from?”  If you’re thinking like this, I just want you to assure you that you are not alone.  I, too, asked myself those very questions prior to going off to college.  Today we will touch on the “What You Need to Know About Financial Aid”

Topics of Discussion will include:

  • What is financial aid?

  • Cost of attendance (COA)

  • Expected family contribution (EFC)

  • Financial need

  • Categories, types, and sources of financial aid

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Special circumstances
